This charcoal drawing depicts a woman being escorted from a shopping mall by security—a scene that has become its own trope. I was interested in why the descent from the cross was such an enduring theme through art history and found unexpected resonance in this contemporary moment. In this collision of sacred imagery and consumer culture, the drawing explores themes of exclusion, dignity, and the body in crisis, and how contemporary spaces of commerce can echo ancient sites of judgment and spectacle.
